Not from successful love alone,
Nor wealth, nor honor'd middle age, nor victories of politics or war;
But as life wanes, and all the turbulent passions calm,
As gorgeous, vapory, silent hues cover the evening sky,
As softness, fulness, rest, suffuse the frame, like freshier, balmier air,
As the days take on a mellower light, and the apple at last hangs
    really finish'd and indolent-ripe on the tree,
Then for the teeming quietest, happiest days of all!
The brooding and blissful halcyon days!

Halcyon Days By Walt Whitman The Halcyon Days
    The Halcyon Days refer to any calm, peaceful or tranquil times. The phrase is commonly used in English literature and culture also signifies ideals of prosperity, joy and liberation. Its origins are from the Greek Legend of Alcyone.

    In this legend, the Halcyon is a type of Kingfisher Bird that builds it’s nest on the surface of the ocean. The bird charms the winds and waves so that seas remain unusually calm during its nesting season.

     Alcyone, the daughter of Aeolus who, in grief over the death of her husband Ceyx, threw herself into the sea due to love and devotion. Out of pity, the Gods changed the couple into a pair of Halycons, and Zeus forbade the winds to blow seven days before and after the winter solstice, the breeding season of the Halcyon.

  Alcyone is also the brightest star of the star cluster Pleiades in the constellation of Taurus.
